A Program to Convert from Stereo Lithography (STL) to Wavefront (OBJ) Formats

Program

This is a relatively simple program that converts between the main 3D printer format - the Stereo Lithography (STL) format - and permits it to be imported into many 3D surface modellers that use the Wavefront Object (OBJ) format. This program bridges the gap between the two. It is a simple program that reads an ASCII or binary STL file and exports it as an untextured OBJ file (because the STL format is too simple to hold this data). Batch conversion is catered for.

I wrote this program so I could import CAD models into the DAZ Studio figure animation package. The render below came from DAZ Studio, with the broken aircraft fuselage being exported from SolidWorks as a STL model, translated to OBJ, texture mapped and then imported into DAZ Studio

The program can be downloaded below. Only the program is included in the zip file.

The program is a 32 bit Windows program, and is known to run on Windows 7 (32 & 64 bit versions) and Win 10 (64 bit). It will almost certainly run under WINE on Linux. It should work in any 32 bit windows operating system. The program is a single file .exe file and executes in any directory you extract the file to. It writes no files other than the .obj file.
